Has Artificial Intelligence Taken Over Content Generation and Entertainment

Artificial intelligence is the latest tech trend and is considered as important as the internet revolution. Since the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in 2022, AI has advanced quickly, showing what great potential lies ahead.

However, as this technology progresses, doubts are rising as to where that leaves humans if AI can “do everything”. One industry that has felt the impact of AI is entertainment. In 2023, Hollywood screenwriters went on strike after production companies started replacing them with AI. And it’s not just the film industry; video game developers have also started complaining that companies are using AI for most of their work.

In an era of popular AI-robot influencers, digital art generated in minutes, and music created by machines, will humans have to take on new roles in content creation or consider AI an ally in the creative process?

 Music Created by Machines

The music creation process has been a teamwork effort for the longest time. You have the producer, songwriter, mixing engineer, sound engineer, and several other people coming together to compose the perfect song.

Nowadays, AI tools like Suno, Udio, and Google’s MusicLM can create melodies, harmonize vocals, and even generate full songs based on a few prompts. These AI-powered software has access to a large music database, which it uses to produce tracks similar to popular music styles or create an entirely new sound.

AI-generated music has made its way to video games, commercials, and background scores, sidelining human composers. There are also AI pop stars like Noonoouri, who have even signed record deals with big companies. Producers now use AI for mundane tasks like mixing and mastering, but it is a matter of time until it also takes over the creative process.

Digital Art Over Traditional Art

Platforms like Midjourney, DALL-E, and Stable Diffusion have taken the art world by storm. Changing the art creation process from creative thinking and artistic skills to simply describing what you want, and the platform does the rest. These AI tools will generate a professional-level illustration in just a few seconds.

Many artists fear that AI undermines traditional art skills and will devalue human-made art in the long run. One of the issues artists have is that companies will let go of designers and illustrators and replace them with AI. Another concern is the copyright infringement of their works, which are used to train these AI models without their consent.

AI Gaming Worlds & Concepts and Smarter NPCs

AI has been a part of gaming for the longest time through computer opponents and characters. However, advancements in AI have taken the technology’s role beyond procedural generation. The tech is now used to design characters, create storylines, and generate game levels, something developers were doing.

No Man’s Sky is an example of a game where AI created entire universes. Thanks to AI, non-player characters (NPCs) have become more realistic and dynamic. In other gaming genres, like casino games, artificial intelligence plays a big role in game design and development. AI creates game themes, mechanics, sounds, and bonus rounds.

While AI has helped in other roles like 24/7 chatbots and personalized gaming experiences like bonuses and game recommendations, players are concerned about the authenticity of game titles. Players don’t mind a no deposit casino bonus notification, but AI games have the potential of being generic without a touch of human creativity.

A New Era of AI Scriptwriting and Filmmaking

As production companies try to balance costs and returns, artificial intelligence provides a simpler and cheaper alternative. However, that has raised many concerns, and that’s why there was a scriptwriters’ strike in Hollywood. AI models like ChatGPT and Sudowrite help screenwriters brainstorm ideas, draft dialogues among characters, and sometimes generate full movie scripts.

Beyond scripts, AI platforms like Runway and Pika Labs create realistic CGI characters and high-quality visual effects, reducing the need for expensive equipment and hiring extra hands. The platforms also do video editing, so we might soon see a film made entirely from AI.

While AI tools speed up production and save on costs, people are skeptical whether they can have the depth of authentic human storytelling that comes from shared experiences.

AI in Entertainment: Collaboration or Replacement?

The conversation about AI in the world of entertainment and content revolves around technology being a reliable ally or a replacement. Sadly, the conversation isn’t tough for companies looking to cut costs and expenses in their production process.

That’s why experts like scriptwriters, game developers, designers, and artists fight for their place. It’s true that AI can help brainstorm ideas and automate mundane tasks, but with its potential, the technology might be able to do more.

At the moment, a collaborative approach works best. Creatives working together with AI to improve efficiency and leverage the unique strengths of both parties. But, with superior versions of AI yet to be released, we don’t know what might change in the future.
